Guidance for Authors

Policies on Research Ethics and Conflict of Interest

The publishers and editorial team of Community Dental Health adhere to The International Committee of Medical Journal Editor’s (ICMJE) Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals (http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/).  The recommendations specifically cite the Helsinki Declaration (2013) regarding the protection of research participants.

The journal also adheres to The Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) core practices (https://publicationethics.org/core-practices>), guidance regarding scientific misconduct and guidelines for retracting articles (https://publicationethics.org/files/retraction-guidelines.pdf) for the handling of corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern.

Authorship

To be recognised as an author of a manuscript, contributors must meet all four of the following criteria (ICMJE op cit.):
1. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation
of data for the work
2. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content
3. Final approval of the version to be published
4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Colleagues who have made a valuable contribution to the study but do not meet the criteria for authorship can be acknowledged.

To maintain trust in the scientific process authors are required to make complete disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest on the opening page of the manuscript and in the final section of the main text.

Peer Review

All submissions to Community Dental Health are first reviewed by a member of the editorial team. Submissions deemed to be within scope and with the potential to be published are then sent for double-blind peer review.  Referees submit reports to the Editor who uses them to decide whether a submission should be revised, accepted or rejected.
